A Harvest-themed Cornucopia
arrangement
All flower arrangements have a distinctive personality. Many materials are
readily available for the hobby florist, often equivalents can be found in your
own backyard.
"Think beyond the flower head,"
said Marc Hall of Winston Flowers. "All parts of the plant should be considered
-- roots, stems, leaves, seed heads, and berries."
Consider making an holiday
arrangement which is longlasting:
a harvest-themed cornucopia of fruits,
ornamental vegetables, and wild nuts. Cluster each element to create solid
blocks of color and texture.
Perhaps central groupings of three green Granny Smith apples, three purple baby
artichokes, and three small green ornamental cabbages all share the quality of
roundness to create a mounded effect.
Moving from center choose increasingly spiky materials as a counterpoint. Three
clusters of smaller coneflower seed heads, spherical green acorns on jagged
twigs, and green.
Finishing touch, encircled it with a
spiral of brown autumn clematis vine or grapevine, stripped of flowers and
leaves. add a couple of dried hydrangeas heads which you may find now in your
garden. They offer more texture than color.
Fill with Pine needle twigs, or seed heads of ornamental grasses.
